Battle of Sudoku: A Multiplayer Sudoku Showdown!
Love Sudoku and want to challenge your friends? Battle of Sudoku is a multiplayer version where you compete against other players or teams. The goal remains the classic Sudoku objective: fill a 9x9 grid with digits so each column, row, and 3x3 subgrid contains all digits from 1 to 9.
Before starting, choose a difficulty level (1-6, 1 being easiest, 6 hardest) in the game options. This sets the initial numbers on the grid, which all players solve simultaneously. Everyone receives the identical puzzle.
Game Modes:
The game offers two modes, configurable in the options:
- Show Opponent's Correct Numbers: Each correctly placed number is visible to all players, earning you points. You can't place a number already used by another player. Speed and accuracy are key!
- Hidden Correct Numbers: Players can't see each other's correct numbers. This allows for simultaneous placement of the same number, creating a different competitive dynamic.
Time-Outs:
Incorrect number placements result in a time-out, preventing actions for a configurable period (default 30 seconds). Other players can continue during this penalty.
Points:
Correct numbers earn points, with higher difficulty levels awarding more points per correct placement. Incorrect numbers deduct points (half the value of a correct placement).
Winning:
The game ends when the puzzle is solved. The player with the most points wins. In the "Hidden Correct Numbers" mode, the game ends when one player solves the puzzle, though this doesn't grant extra points; other players can still win based on fewer mistakes.
Team Play vs. Individual Play:
Team play allows two teams to compete. Join a team (1 or 2) upon entering a game. A minimum of two players per team is required. Points are added to the team's total score, and notes/filled colors are shared within the team, enabling collaborative strategies.
Solving Tools:
A toolbar below the puzzle provides tools for solving and adding personal notes:
- Pen Tool: Add mini-numbers as notes to empty squares. Clicking a number already present removes it.
- Fill Mode: Change the background color of any square (including solved ones).
