by Leo Apr 04,2025

Netflix has unveiled the much-anticipated trailer for "Happy Gilmore 2," set to premiere on the streaming platform on July 25, 2025. In this sequel, Adam Sandler reprises his iconic role as Happy Gilmore, nearly three decades after the original film's debut in 1996. The trailer showcases the return of beloved cast members Julie Bowen, Ben Stiller, and Christopher McDonald, who once again portrays the antagonistic Shooter McGavin.

The trailer also introduces new co-stars, including Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (known as Bad Bunny), Adam Sandler's daughters Sadie and Sunny Sandler, and Blake Clark. Fans will be delighted by a playful SpongeBob SquarePants reference at the trailer's outset.

Netflix has confirmed the participation of several professional golfers in the film, such as John Daly, Paige Spiranac, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Will Zalatoris. Additionally, NFL star Travis Kelce makes a cameo appearance.

For those needing a refresher on the original "Happy Gilmore," here's Netflix's official recap:

At the end of the original Happy Gilmore, Sandler’s titular character was finally at rest after a long, strenuous season of golf (and one knockdown brawl with The Price Is Right’s Bob Barker). On a mission to raise enough money to pay the IRS for his grandmother’s years of delinquent back taxes (oops), the failed hockey player took his skills on the road as the most unorthodox golf player the Tour Championship had ever seen.

Along the way, Happy made allies (the late, great Carl Weathers’ one-handed Chubbs Petersen and a homeless caddy played by Allen Covert) and enemies (Christopher McDonald’s arrogant Shooter McGavin and the aforementioned Bob Barker), but he ultimately triumphed in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. He showed the golf snobs who’s boss, saved his grandmother’s house, and returned home at last.

It’s currently unclear how the film will resurrect Gilmore’s golf career, but one thing’s for sure: In the real world, at least, Happy Gilmore is a legend. Even the world’s best golfers agree.

The development of "Happy Gilmore 2" was first announced in March 2024, with Netflix officially ordering the sequel in May. The film is directed by Kyle Newacheck and scripted by Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy.
