High-end prebuilt PCs often come with a hefty price tag, but savvy shoppers can still snag significant savings with the right deals. Currently, Dell is slashing $1,000 off the Alienware Aurora R16 equipped with a GeForce RTX 4090, bringing the price down to just $2,899.99. This marks the first time in months that an RTX 4090 gaming PC has been available for under $3,000. With standalone RTX 4090 graphics cards creeping back up in price and hovering around $2,000 from reputable sellers, building your own PC might not be as cost-effective as you'd think. Plus, opting for a prebuilt system like this one comes with the added benefit of a comprehensive warranty.

This Alienware Aurora R16 gaming PC packs a punch with an Intel Core i9-14900KF CPU, a GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 32GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 2TB NVMe SSD. The 14th gen Intel Core i9-14900KF stands out as the top Intel gaming CPU currently available, excelling in both gaming and productivity tasks. Known for running hot, this CPU is kept cool by a robust 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler. The system is powered by a reliable 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.
The RTX 4090 is the undisputed king of GPUs, outpacing all competitors from both NVIDIA and AMD. As Chris Coke noted in his review, "The RTX 4090 may be huge and expensive, but holy smokes if it doesn’t blow the competition out of the water... Until the rest of the pack can catch up, between its impressive hardware specs and its DLSS 3 AI wizardry, even the $1,599 price doesn’t seem unreasonable for the unrivaled frame rates that this card can crank out." With this GPU, you can enjoy any game at 4K resolution with ultra settings and ray tracing enabled, delivering high framerates even in the most demanding new titles like Black Myth: Wukong or Warhammer Space Marine 2. It's also the go-to consumer card for AI applications, thanks to its 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM.
A note on RTX 5000 series GPUs
NVIDIA's next generation of GPUs, the RTX 5000 series, is slated to launch at the end of January. While the RTX 5090 promises even greater power, it will come at a steep price of $2,000 for the Founder's Edition, with potential availability issues. The RTX 5080, launching at $999, may also face supply constraints. We'll be benchmarking these cards soon, but they'll come with less VRAM than the 4090 (16GB vs 24GB) and may not immediately dethrone the 4090 as the top performer.
A note on Alienware's newest "R16" desktop chassis
The R16 represents Alienware's 2024 desktop PC design, boasting a 40% reduction in volume compared to its predecessors. Its airflow system is both simple and effective, drawing air in through side intake vents over the GPU and a 120mm front fan, and expelling it via a 120mm rear fan and two 120mm top fans. The 240mm radiator for the all-in-one liquid cooling system is mounted to these top fans. While some configurations omit the liquid cooling, we typically recommend those that include it due to the superior performance over Alienware's stock air cooling. Note that Dell unveiled a new Area 51 chassis at CES 2025, but it closely resembles the R16 in both appearance and design.
