Alienware Slashes Prices on RTX 4090 Gaming PCs

by Max Mar 28,2025

The GeForce RTX 4090, while a generation older than the cutting-edge Blackwell 50 series GPUs, remains one of the most formidable graphics cards available. It outshines the RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. The only GPU that surpasses it is the RTX 5090, which is notoriously difficult to obtain at anything other than exorbitant prices.

With the RTX 4090 now discontinued, finding one has become a challenge. Thankfully, Dell offers two prebuilt gaming PC models that include the RTX 4090 at competitive prices. The Alienware Aurora R16 starts at $2,999.99, while the Dell Tower Plus is available from $2,849.99. These options represent some of the best deals for an RTX 4090-equipped system, especially since other major manufacturers like Lenovo and HP have ceased offering RTX 4090 prebuilt PCs.

Priced at $2,999.99 at Alienware, this Alienware Aurora R16 comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The CPU can be upgraded to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though for gaming, the default Intel Core Ultra 7 265F with its 5.3GHz max turbo frequency and 20 cores is more than sufficient. The system features a 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler and a robust 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

Dell Tower Plus RTX 4090 Gaming PC

Available at Dell for $2,849.99 after a 10% discount, the Dell Tower Plus features similar specs including an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. For an additional $100, upgrading to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K not only enhances performance but also improves cooling from standard to advanced air cooling, rated for 125W TDP. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

How does the RTX 4090 stack up against current cards?

The RTX 4090 stands as the pinnacle of the RTX 40 series, only outclassed by the RTX 5090 from the new Blackwell lineup. It delivers exceptional performance at 4K resolution, comfortably achieving over 60fps with all settings maxed out and ray tracing enabled, especially when DLSS is utilized. While it struggles with path tracing, this feature is rarely used outside of benchmarks. For most gamers, the RTX 4090's performance is more than adequate, making the RTX 5090's superior power somewhat redundant.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke

"The RTX 4090 is a powerhouse, albeit large and pricey. Its performance is unmatched among current cards, making its $1,599 price tag seem justified for the frame rates it delivers, especially with DLSS 3 enhancing its capabilities."

Dell offers an Alienware Aurora R16 with the new GeForce RTX 5080 GPU for $2,499.99 shipped. According to Jackie's review of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE, "For those with recent high-end GPUs, the RTX 5080 might not justify the upgrade due to its marginal performance improvement over the RTX 4080. However, it's a compelling choice for those upgrading from older cards, particularly with the benefits of DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation."
