The highly anticipated Amazon adaptation of the iconic video game, *God of War*, is already making waves even before its premiere. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore, who stepped in after the exit of Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, has revealed that the series has been greenlit for two seasons. In a recent chat with Katee Sackhoff, Moore shared his excitement about diving into this new project.
"Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of, there's a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," Moore explained. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, and working on that. That's my new thing."
Moore, while not a gamer himself, humorously recounted his attempts at playing games like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. "I took a stab at it," he said, "but the controllers threw me. 'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead."
Taking on the roles of writer, executive producer, and showrunner, Moore brings a wealth of experience from his work on *Star Trek: The Next Generation* and *Deep Space Nine*, as well as his acclaimed stint as the showrunner for the 2000s *Battlestar Galactica*. Despite some changes in the production team, Sony's Cory Barlog remains an executive producer, ensuring a strong connection to the source material.
The series will be based on the critically acclaimed 2018 *God of War* game, promising to bring its rich narrative and emotional depth to the screen. Amazon's swift renewal of other video game adaptations like the *Fallout* TV show and *Secret Level* after their successful launches suggests a promising future for *God of War* on their streaming platform.
