How To Anoint in Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

by Penelope Apr 04,2025

In *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's power is crucial, and anointing is one of the advanced methods to do so. This feature, which becomes available later in the game, allows you to boost your amulets and Waystones using Distilled Emotions. If you're familiar with the original *Path of Exile*, you'll find that Distilled Emotions serve a similar purpose to Blight Oils. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

To acquire Distilled Emotions, you'll primarily need to complete Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random selection of these emotions upon completion. Alternatively, you can obtain them through currency exchange or the trade market. For those looking to upgrade their Distilled Emotions, the Reforging Bench is your go-to spot. By combining three of the same type, you can create an upgraded version of that emotion, giving you more control over your anointing choices.

For players seeking a challenge, tackling Simulacrum waves offers another chance to obtain Distilled Emotions, though this method is less efficient and more demanding than Delirium Maps, requiring a robust build to succeed.

How to Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Anointing in *Path of Exile 2* currently applies to amulets and Waystones, with potential for more options as the game evolves through Early Access. To anoint an amulet, start by selecting any Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. Place your amulet in the central slot, and then add a Distilled Emotion to each of the three slots below it. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing effect are detailed in the Passive Skill Tree. Simply hover over a Notable Passive Skill and press alt on your keyboard or R3 on your controller to see the requirements.

The skills you choose to anoint will vary based on your build, and remember, anointing isn't permanent. You can re-anoint your amulet by repeating the process, allowing you to adapt your skills to your evolving build. The new skill will replace the old one, offering flexibility as you progress.

Similarly, you can anoint Waystones to increase their difficulty and improve the quality of loot they drop. However, keep in mind that neither amulets nor Waystones can be anointed if they are corrupted.

With these insights, you're now equipped to enhance your amulets and challenge yourself with anointed Waystones, optimizing your gameplay experience in *Path of Exile 2*.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
