ARK Spinoff Reaches Major Player Milestone as Free-to-Play Game

Summary

  • ARK: Ultimate Mobile Edition surpassed 3 million downloads in just 3 weeks after its launch.
  • The game faces mixed reviews but continues to rise in popularity on iOS and Android.
  • Grove Street Games plans to add new maps and content to the dinosaur-infested world in the future.

ARK: Ultimate Mobile Edition, a free-to-play survival game, has achieved a remarkable feat by amassing over three million downloads within three weeks of its launch on December 18, 2024. Set in the same universe as the 2017 hit ARK: Survival Evolved, this mobile spin-off offers players a chance to gather resources, craft weapons, build settlements, and tame dinosaurs, all from the convenience of their smartphones.

Despite receiving mixed reviews upon release, ARK: Ultimate Mobile Edition has outshone the initial performance of ARK: Survival Evolved's mobile port from 2018, boasting a 100% increase in player downloads. The game's publisher, Snail Games, announced this milestone on January 10, 2025. Developer Grove Street Games, known for their work on ARK: Survival Evolved's enhanced Nintendo Switch port in 2022, is not resting on their laurels. They are actively working on expanding the game's universe with new maps like Ragnarok, Extinction, Genesis Part 1, and Genesis Part 2.

The mobile title is making waves on both the App Store and Google Play Store. It currently holds the 24th spot among adventure games on iOS and ranks 9th among top-grossing adventure games on Android. Ratings reflect a mixed but generally positive reception, with a 3.9 out of 5 on the App Store based on 412 reviews and a 3.6 out of 5 on the Play Store from over 52.5K user scores.

Looking ahead, ARK: Ultimate Mobile Edition is slated for release on the Epic Games Store in 2025, offering players more flexibility in choosing their preferred platform. Meanwhile, Studio Wildcard, the franchise's owner, has shared an updated roadmap for ARK: Survival Ascended, hinting at exciting content updates in the coming months. Fans are also eagerly awaiting news on ARK 2, which unfortunately missed its anticipated late 2024 release window.
