How to Unlock Animals in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Each time Naoe or Yasuke pets a cat or dog in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, if it’s a breed they’ve never encountered before, that animal becomes available for the Hideout. A variety of dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens can join the League’s ranks—including the stray you seek vengeance for in the pre-order DLC quest “Thrown to the Dogs.”
Yasuke can also unlock small animals by painting them. Rabbits, fox kits, tanukis, and monkeys are among the wildlife you may encounter and document in the wild. If you wish, these creatures can be added to the Hideout as well.

How to Add Animals to the Hideout in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
(Ubisoft)Head to the Hiroma and approach the bench to begin Hideout upgrades. Once in the customization menu, switch to build mode, then select the wolf icon on the far right. This opens a list of all unlocked animals, categorized as dogs, cats, and “other.”
Choose the animal you’d like to add. You’ll then see an overhead view of the Hideout, where you can pick an empty grid to place your chosen creature. You’re free to position it anywhere, but once you return to gameplay, the animals will roam freely—so don’t expect them to stay in one spot when you want a cuddle.
Except for the “Thrown to the Dogs” pup, you can add multiple copies—or even triplicates—of any animal to the Hideout. The game imposes a cap on the total number of animals allowed, so plan accordingly if you want a diverse collection. You can remove or swap animals anytime by deleting them and placing new ones in build mode.
