Bandai Namco has announced the shutdown of PAC-MAN Mobile, a move that feels particularly ironic as the legendary icon celebrates its 45th anniversary this year. This beloved version of the game, launched over a decade ago, will soon be no more.
When Is the PAC-MAN Mobile Shutdown?
The official shutdown date for PAC-MAN Mobile is set for May 30th, 2025. In-app purchases were discontinued as of April 1st, but players can continue enjoying the game until the final day. Many fans have voiced their disappointment, wishing that Bandai Namco would convert the game to an offline version instead of shutting it down entirely. Such a move could have kept the game alive and continued generating revenue.
PAC-MAN Mobile, formerly known as PAC-MAN + Tournaments, offered more than just the classic arcade experience. In addition to the iconic 8-bit arcade mode, it featured a Story Mode with numerous original mazes to navigate. The game also included an Adventure Mode with limited-time themed events, allowing players to earn exclusive skins. The Tournament Mode added weekly maze challenges across three difficulty levels, and there were plenty of skins available for PAC-MAN, the ghosts, the joystick, and more.
The Reason
The decision to shut down PAC-MAN Mobile likely stems from the accumulation of bugs and issues over the years, which have plagued the game. The initial excitement surrounding its launch on Android, where players competed for high scores and leaderboard rankings, has faded. Those were fun times, filled with competitive spirit and community engagement.
