Bayonetta Celebrates 15 Years with PlatinumGames Anniversary

PlatinumGames is celebrating fifteen years of Bayonetta with a year-long anniversary celebration, expressing gratitude to fans for their enduring support. The original game, released in 2009 (Japan) and 2010 (globally), garnered critical acclaim for its innovative design and fast-paced action, establishing a legacy that spanned sequels on Nintendo platforms.

The stylish action and creative premise of the first Bayonetta game quickly cemented its place in gaming history, with Bayonetta becoming a celebrated video game anti-heroine. While Sega published the original title across multiple platforms, subsequent sequels became Nintendo exclusives, released on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch. A prequel, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, further expanded the lore, and Bayonetta herself appeared as a playable character in recent Super Smash Bros. installments.

PlatinumGames recently announced a "Bayonetta 15th Anniversary Year" for 2025, promising special announcements and events throughout the year. While details remain scarce, the developer encourages fans to follow their social media channels for updates.

Bayonetta's 15th Anniversary in 2025

Already underway are several anniversary initiatives. Wayo Records has launched a limited-edition Bayonetta music box, featuring artwork inspired by the Super Mirror and playing Masami Ueda's "Theme Of Bayonetta - Mysterious Destiny." PlatinumGames is also releasing monthly Bayonetta-themed smartphone wallpapers, with January's featuring Bayonetta and Jeanne in kimonos.

Even after fifteen years, the original Bayonetta remains influential, refining the stylish action genre pioneered by Devil May Cry. Its innovative mechanics, such as Witch Time, laid the groundwork for future PlatinumGames titles like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Nier: Automata. Fans eagerly await further announcements throughout this momentous anniversary year.
