Black Myth: Wukong Launches on Xbox Series X/S August 20

by Savannah Jun 13,2025

*Black Myth: Wukong*, the highly anticipated action RPG based on the legendary Chinese tale *Journey to the West*, is set to arrive on Xbox Series X/S on **August 20, 2025**, marking its long-awaited debut on Microsoft’s platforms—exactly one year after its initial launch on PS5 and PC.

Xbox officially announced the release date via a tweet/X post reading:

You are the Destined One.
Black Myth: Wukong is coming August 20. Pre-order begins June 18!

The game has enjoyed tremendous commercial success, having sold more than **25 million copies** as of January 31, 2025. Despite its popularity, its absence from Xbox had been a glaring omission, especially since it was never confirmed as a Sony exclusive.

Reports initially suggested that the delay was due to a temporary exclusivity deal with Sony rather than technical limitations. However, Fen Ji, CEO of developer Game Science, hinted at performance challenges tied specifically to the Xbox Series S.

“The only thing missing is the Xbox,” he reportedly said, referencing the console's hardware constraints, particularly its 10GB of shared memory. “Without years of optimization experience, it’s really hard to make work.”

Luckily, those hurdles appear to have been overcome, and Xbox players can now look forward to experiencing the game for themselves.

In our official *Black Myth: Wukong* review, we noted: "Despite some frustrating technical issues, *Black Myth: Wukong* is a great action game with fantastic combat, exciting bosses, tantalizing secrets, and a beautiful world."

While the game has received praise for its visuals and gameplay, it has also faced scrutiny over past allegations involving the developer, including reports of workplace sexism dating back to 2023.
