Borderlands 4 Gets Own PlayStation State of Play
PlayStation has officially announced that Borderlands 4 will be the star of its own State of Play today. On April 29, PlayStation took to Twitter (X) to reveal that the Borderlands 4 State of Play is scheduled for April 30 at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 10 PM BST / 11 PM CEST. During the live stream, developers from Gearbox Software will delve into the upcoming FPS sequel in the Borderlands series. A PlayStation.blog post from April 29 hints that the State of Play will feature over 20 minutes of "developer-guided gameplay," showcasing missions, deadly weapons, thrilling Action Skills, and both new and familiar characters.
Launch Date Moved to September 12
In a surprising turn of events following the State of Play announcement, Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford shared via a Twitter (X) video on April 29 that Borderlands 4 is set to launch earlier than planned, on September 12. The video was quickly deleted, and Pitchford followed up with another post admitting he shared the news prematurely, promising to repost it soon.
In the video, Pitchford expressed that development is going exceptionally well, stating "everything’s going kinda the best scenario," which has allowed them to move up the launch date. Initially, during PlayStation’s February State of Play, Borderlands 4 was slated for a September 23 release. However, the official Borderlands 4 Twitter (X) account later confirmed the new earlier launch date.
The tweet from the official account reads, "After careful consideration–along with A LOT of meetings, playtestings, and incredible development work–we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to SEPTEMBER 12."
