Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in New Video Celebrating 10M RE4 Players

by Henry May 20,2025

Capcom has cleverly hinted at Resident Evil 9 in a recent celebratory video.

To mark the milestone of 10 million players for Resident Evil 4, the development team released a video on social media on April 25. The footage features Ada Wong engaging in a hushed conversation with a notorious villain, followed by a scene where Leon is surrounded by infected enemies wearing party hats, casually approaching a church.

The video then transitions to a rock tune, showcasing Dr. Salvador playing his chainsaw as if it were a guitar. As the camera pulls back, we see Leon pumping his fist in front of a rustic sign that reads "Thank you for playing."

Attention all agents,
We've prepared a special video to express our gratitude to all of you, which we hope you'll enjoy (with sound ON)!

However, if you tilt the sign sideways, the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," which represents the number 9. While it might seem like a mere coincidence, horror game insider Dusk Golem emphasizes that the lower plank of the sign is absent in earlier parts of the video, suggesting its addition was deliberate. Interpret this as you wish.

"I know what you did here," remarked one astonished viewer, adding a wide-eyed emoji for emphasis.

PlayCapcom has officially announced that the upcoming mainline installment in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 9, will be helmed by Resident Evil 7 director Koshi Nakanishi.

"It was really challenging to decide on the next step after [Resident Evil 7]," Nakanishi stated previously. "But I've found it, and honestly, it feels significant. I'm not at liberty to share specifics yet, but I hope you're eager for the reveal." Rumors, though unconfirmed, suggest the game may be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
