Diablo 4 Season 5 may bring a legendary crossover: Frostmourne, the Lich King's iconic weapon from World of Warcraft. Data mined from the Season 5 Public Test Realm (PTR) reveals models strongly resembling this fearsome blade, hinting at its potential inclusion in the upcoming August update.
The Season 5 PTR, running until July 2nd, offers a sneak peek at new content arriving before Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred's October 8th launch. Among the discoveries on the PTR by Wowhead are two Frostmourne models, suggesting both one-handed and two-handed variants might be available. While its exact function remains uncertain – cosmetic item, legendary weapon, or something else entirely – the possibility of wielding Frostmourne in Diablo 4 is exciting.
Frostmourne's Diablo 4 Debut?
Frostmourne's infamy in Warcraft lore is undeniable. Its cursed blade corrupted Arthas, leading to his transformation into the Lich King. Though destroyed and reforged in subsequent Warcraft expansions, players have never directly wielded it in WoW. Diablo 4 could offer this unique opportunity.
This isn't the first WoW crossover in Diablo 4. Last October, the Invincible mount cosmetic (with Frostmourne replica) was added to the cash shop. However, this new discovery suggests players may finally wield the legendary weapon, not just display it.
Season 5's class weapon expansion further fuels speculation. Druids gain access to polearms, one-handed swords, and daggers; Necromancers get maces and axes; and Sorcerers unlock one-handed swords and maces. A one-handed Frostmourne would therefore be usable by every Diablo 4 class.
