Crossplay in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: A Balanced Perspective and How to Disable It
Cross-platform play has revolutionized online gaming, uniting the Call of Duty community. However, crossplay isn't without its drawbacks. This guide explains how to disable crossplay in Black Ops 6 and the implications of doing so.
The Crossplay Dilemma
Disabling crossplay in Black Ops 6 presents a trade-off. Many players disable it to create a more level playing field, particularly console players seeking to avoid PC players. PC players often possess a significant advantage due to the superior precision of mouse and keyboard controls over controllers. Additionally, the prevalence of cheats and hacks, despite anti-cheat measures, can be a major concern. Disabling crossplay theoretically reduces encounters with cheaters.
The Drawback: Reduced Player Pool
The significant downside is a drastically reduced player pool, potentially leading to longer matchmaking times and less optimal connections with other players. Our experience shows that disabling crossplay often results in extended search times and less stable online matches.
Disabling Crossplay: A Step-by-Step Guide
Disabling crossplay is relatively simple. Locate the Crossplay and Crossplay Communications toggles within the Account & Network settings. Toggle the setting from "On" to "Off" using the X or A button. This can be done from within Black Ops 6, Warzone, or the main Call of Duty menu. Note that the image shows the setting accessed via Quick Settings.
Important Considerations
You may find the crossplay setting greyed out and unavailable in certain game modes, like Ranked Play. Previously, Call of Duty mandated crossplay in some modes, but this will be adjustable in Season 2 of Black Ops 6, offering players greater control over their matchmaking experience.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is currently available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
