Disney Lorcana has unveiled an array of exciting updates for the future of this popular trading card game, including details about its ninth set, Fabled, set to launch on September 5, 2025. Fabled will introduce the first-ever Iconic and Epic cards and will feature cards inspired by the beloved film, A Goofy Movie.
In addition to Fabled, Disney Lorcana revealed more about the eighth set, Reign of Jafar, scheduled for release on June 6, introduced a new Collection Starter Set, and shared insights into the upcoming Disney Lorcana World Championship. Fans were also treated to a tease of Darkwing Duck's future inclusion in the game.
Let's dive into the specifics to ensure you're fully informed about what's on the horizon for Disney Lorcana.
Fabled Will Add Iconic and Epic Cards, A Goofy Movie, and Rotating Cards for Competitive Play
The anticipation for Fabled is growing, especially after the Disney Lorcana team shared tantalizing details about its pre-release on August 29 and official release on September 5, 2025. A major highlight of Fabled will be the inclusion of cards inspired by A Goofy Movie, although specific cards remain under wraps.
Fabled will also introduce the rarest cards in Lorcana history: Iconic Cards. With only two Iconic Cards per set, the inaugural ones will feature Mickey and Minnie on a carousel, making them highly sought-after collectibles. Complementing the Iconic Cards will be Epic Cards, which, while rarer than Legendary cards, won't be as elusive as Enchanted and Iconic ones. These Epic Cards will boast unique artwork and foil treatments, with an example being a new Elsa (Snow Queen) card.
Another significant change with Fabled is the introduction of card rotation for competitive play. The top-tier competitive format, Core Constructed, will no longer allow the use of cards from the first four sets, pushing players to adapt and innovate their strategies.

For fans of older cards, there's no need to worry. A new format called Infinity Constructed will allow the use of these cards, and Fabled will also include reprints of cards from earlier sets, such as Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard), which will be fully compatible with competitive play.
"To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter," said Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger. "But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans’ deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we’re re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled. Including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!"
For newcomers eager to dive into Lorcana, the team has introduced the Collection Starter Set. This set includes four Fabled booster packs, a Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card, a card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor), and a collector's guide.
Reign of Jafar Offers Aladdin and Bambi Cards Alongside a New Co-Op Adventure
Reign of Jafar, the eighth set in the Lorcana series, is set for pre-release on May 30 and a wide release on June 6. This set continues the ongoing narrative featuring Disney's villain, Jafar, and his newfound possession of the Hexwell Crown, which he uses to corrupt Archazia’s Island.
"Jafar now possesses the Hexwell Crown and, with it, he has corrupted Archazia’s Island to his wicked will," reads the official description. "Traps and illusions abound in Reign of Jafar, and glimmers like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber will need to band together to steal back the crown and defeat the evil vizier."

Alongside Reign of Jafar, fans can look forward to Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a new co-op experience-in-a-box allowing four players to team up against Jafar and his minions. The set will include cards featuring characters like Bambi (Prince of the Forest), Flower (Shy Skunk), Thumper (Young Bunny), Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana), Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug), Aladdin (Vigilant Guard), and many more.
Teases of the Future Include Whispers in the Well and Darkwing Duck
At the conclusion of the presentation, Disney revealed that the set following Fabled will be named Whispers in the Well, slated for release in Q4 2025. Key art showcased Mickey, Ariel, and hinted at the inclusion of Disney Gargoyles, along with a new type of Glimmer. Additionally, the long-awaited addition of Darkwing Duck to Lorcana was confirmed for 2026, answering many fans' requests.
Get Ready For the Disney Lorcana World Championship
The competitive scene for Lorcana is set to intensify with the Disney Lorcana World Championship, scheduled for June 28 and 29 at Walt Disney World. This prestigious event will crown the first annual Disney Lorcana TCG World Champion, with players from around the globe vying for the title.
For those unable to attend, the event will be streamed live on Twitch.TV/DisneyLorcana, with commentary from a talented team including Rebekah (RebekahQuests), Baker (LorcanaVillain), Liam (The Illumiteers), Brandon (Bsquared24), and JD (JDZ Quest).
