DOOM: The Dark Ages angers fans as the physical disc contains just 85 MB. Learn how players got early access and what the official launch trailer reveals.
DOOM: The Dark Ages Shipped Early
Only 85MB Included in the Disc
DOOM: The Dark Ages fans are outraged because the physical disc includes only 85 MB of data. Scheduled for release on May 15, the game was shipped early by some retailers—even ahead of the premium edition’s two-day early access.
Many were stunned to find they’d need to download over 80 GB to play. This was confirmed by Twitter (X) user @DoesItPlay1, who shared PS5 screenshots on May 9 showing the disc’s contents: a mere 85.01 MB. The game requires an internet connection not just for updates, but to even launch.
Fans are frustrated with Bethesda’s approach to physical releases, saying the disc feels like a placeholder rather than a real copy. Some argue the move wastes resources, while others are waiting for the digital version. It’s clear this decision has backfired—players must download massive amounts of data just to start playing.
An Amazing Game
According to multiple Reddit threads, players have already played DOOM: The Dark Ages and shared details about its story, UI, weapons, and more. Screenshots have flooded in, with many calling the experience incredible.
Reddit user TCXIV received the collector’s edition and called it an “amazing game, what a trip.” They posted extensive screenshots covering menus, interfaces, bestiaries, demons, cutscenes, major spoilers, and other elements.
At Game8, we rated DOOM: The Dark Ages 88 out of 100 for its brutal renaissance of the series—replacing the aerial spectacle of DOOM (2016) and Eternal with raw, ground-level combat. To read our full take, check out our article below!
