Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly departing from BioWare, an EA-owned studio. Eurogamer reported that Busche, who served as game director from February 2022 until the game's launch last year, will be leaving in the coming weeks. EA has been contacted by IGN for comment.
The commercial success of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been a subject of discussion since its October release. While Eurogamer indicates Busche's departure is unrelated to other studio changes, the game's performance remains unclear. EA's Q3 2025 financial results, expected February 4th, may shed light on whether sales met or exceeded expectations.
BioWare has confirmed no DLC is planned for The Veilguard, shifting focus to Mass Effect 5, a project previously teased but yet to be formally unveiled.
Busche's departure follows a period of upheaval at BioWare. In August 2023, around 50 employees, including veteran narrative designer Mary Kirby, were laid off, coinciding with a broader restructuring at EA that divided the company into sports and non-sports divisions. Rumors of a potential BioWare acquisition circulated that summer, and Star Wars: The Old Republic transitioned to a third-party publisher, ostensibly to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.
The unveiling of Dragon Age: The Veilguard (previously titled Dreadwolf) in 2024 initially faced negative reception, prompting BioWare to quickly release gameplay footage to appease fans. Despite the initial backlash, subsequent impressions were generally more positive.
The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain. Whether BioWare will be given the opportunity to develop a sequel to The Veilguard is a question on the minds of many fans.
