Dune: Awakening Will Be an MMO With No Monthly Subscriptions

Dune: Awakening, the highly anticipated multiplayer survival game inspired by the iconic 1965 sci-fi novel, is set to launch with a unique approach to its business model. Developer Funcom has confirmed that the game will not require a monthly subscription, setting it apart from other MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online. Instead, the game will be supported through free updates that will bring new content, features, and enhancements to players.

Dune: Awakening Coming on May 20

No Early Access and No Monthly Subscription

Dune: Awakening is slated for a full release on May 20, as confirmed by Funcom in a recent Steam blog post dated March 21. This announcement dispels any notions of an early access phase, ensuring that players will dive into a complete gaming experience right from the start. Funcom emphasized their commitment to long-term support for the game, drawing on their experience with live service titles such as Anarchy Online, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year, and Conan Exiles, which continues to receive regular updates and expansions.
