Netflix is developing a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series based on the Forgotten Realms setting, according to Deadline. The project is a significant undertaking for Netflix, described as one of their largest fantasy TV investments. Shawn Levy (known for Deadpool and Wolverine), alongside writer-showrunner Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) and Hasbro, are spearheading the production. The Forgotten Realms setting has previously been featured in the film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and the video game Baldur's Gate 3. While Netflix and Hasbro haven't officially commented, the pilot script is reportedly complete, and a successful series could potentially launch a broader D&D universe on the platform.

Despite the promising news for the live-action series, a sequel to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves remains uncertain. While star Chris Pine expressed interest and confidence in a sequel, Paramount Pictures' CEO, Brian Robbins, indicated a sequel would only proceed with a reduced budget. Meanwhile, Amazon's Secret Level anthology series features a D&D animated segment.
