Dynasty Warriors: Origins - Repurposing Old Coins

Exploring the vast overworld in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins* can yield several rewards that are crucial for succeeding in your future battles. Among these, you'll often come across Old Coins, which might not seem useful at first glance, especially early in the game.

There are multiple ways to acquire Old Coins, and with hundreds scattered throughout the game, you'll soon have a decent stash. Below, we delve into what you can use Old Coins for, as well as various methods on how to collect them.

What To Use Old Coins For In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Initially, during the first chapter of the game, Old Coins won't have any use, so you can safely ignore them as you progress through the main story. However, once you kick off Chapter 2, you'll need to complete the following main story battles to unlock their utility:

  • Suppression of You Province
  • Suppression of Jing Province
  • Suppression of Liang Province

After triumphing in these battles, you'll head back to the city of Ji where you'll encounter a character named Sima Hui. Once you've finished your conversation with him and completed the task of fetching incense for the Innkeeper, the Shui Jing Retreat will become accessible on the overworld map, right next to Ji. At this retreat, you can interact with Sima Hui and utilize your accumulated Old Coins. Besides checking your bonds and revisiting past interactions, you can exchange Old Coins for valuable rewards.

These rewards are awarded when you hit certain milestones with your Old Coins, so make sure to turn them in whenever you pass by.

How To Get Old Coins In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

With a total of 500 Old Coins to discover in the game, it's not advisable to focus on farming them early on. Instead, you'll unlock more efficient methods to collect them as you progress. Here are the various ways to obtain Old Coins:

  • Finding them in the overworld. Keep an eye out for their small icon, which only appears when you're close.
  • Receiving them from Bond Interactions with your companions and officers.
  • Collecting them from letters at the Inn following story moments.
  • Earning them as Regional Peace rewards at Waypoints.

When searching for Old Coins in the overworld, remember that their icon is quite small and only becomes visible when you're nearby, unlike the more noticeable Pyroxene. The rewards you can get from Old Coins vary in usefulness, but overall, you should focus on enjoying the game, and the coins will accumulate naturally as you play.
