If you're a fan of the classic strategy game ROME: Total War on Android, you're in for a treat with the massive free update that Feral Interactive has just released. Dubbed the Imperium Update, it brings a slew of gameplay tweaks, control improvements, and quality-of-life enhancements that elevate the gaming experience to new heights. And if you're eagerly waiting for updates on the standalone expansions, Barbarian Invasion and Alexander, you won't have to wait long as they're set to receive the same update next week.
What Does the Imperium Update Bring to ROME: Total War?
The Imperium Update integrates some of the best features from Feral’s more recent mobile releases, such as Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE, into ROME: Total War. Now, players have access to three new control options: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection. These additions enhance unit command precision and make battles more engaging and manageable.
With the update, you can now simply tap and hold to move your armies, agents, or fleets, eliminating the need for manual path dragging. Positioning Mode allows for fine-tuning unit placements with a tap-and-hold mechanism. The Group Grid feature simplifies managing unit groups through a collapsible selection menu. For those intense moments, Melee Mode lets ranged units switch to close combat when necessary.
One of the most significant changes is the introduction of Command Slowdown, which automatically slows the game down when issuing complex orders, ensuring you can manage your strategies effectively. Additionally, for the first time, keyboard and mouse support has been added for Android (and iPad) users, providing a more versatile control experience.
The minimap in ROME: Total War has also been revamped to resemble the intuitive design found in MEDIEVAL II. It now features smoother zooming and navigation, along with a new reset button for quickly returning to the default view.
The Imperium Update is now live and available for immediate installation via the Google Play Store for ROME: Total War on Android. Make sure to check out the updates for Barbarian Invasion and Alexander next week when they go live.
