FIFAe World Cup concludes with first ever champions for console and mobile

by Lily Jan 05,2025

The inaugural FIFAe World Cup 2024, a collaboration between eFootball and FIFA, has crowned its champions in both console and mobile categories. Malaysia's Minbappe secured victory in the mobile division, while an Indonesian team—comprising BINONGBOYS, SHNKS-ELGA, GARUDAFRANC, and akbarpaudie—dominated the console competition.

Held at the impressive SEF Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this tournament marks the first of what's anticipated to be a recurring event, reflecting Saudi Arabia's significant investment in esports, coinciding with the inaugural Esports World Cup.

High-Stakes Football

The FIFAe World Cup's success with fans remains to be seen. However, Konami and FIFA's clear ambition to establish eFootball as the premier football simulator for elite competition is undeniable, and this tournament strongly reinforces that goal.

Concerns exist, though, regarding the potential disconnect between this high-profile, lavish competition and the average player. History shows that excessive corporate involvement in esports, even in established scenes like fighting games, can sometimes lead to complications in top-tier gameplay. While the FIFAe World Cup currently appears smooth, the possibility of similar challenges remains.
