Fire Emblem Games Coming to Nintendo Switch in 2025

by Christopher May 15,2025

It’s been 35 years since Intelligent Systems introduced the world to the Fire Emblem series on Nintendo's Famicom. Over the decades, the series has evolved significantly, refining its tactical combat and introducing cherished character bonding mechanics that have propelled it to the forefront of tactical RPGs. This journey has culminated in two exceptional mainline entries on the Nintendo Switch, marking a high point in the franchise's storied history.

As we approach the end of the original Switch era, we've put together a comprehensive list of all the Fire Emblem games currently available on the console, along with insights into what fans can expect on the upcoming Switch 2.

Fire Emblem Warriors (2017)

Launched in 2017, Fire Emblem Warriors marked the series' debut on the Switch as a crossover with Dynasty Warriors. This unique blend combines Fire Emblem's strategic team-based gameplay with Dynasty Warriors' frenetic hack-and-slash action. While it's a delightful spinoff for action enthusiasts, its lighter narrative may not appeal to those deeply invested in Fire Emblem's lore.

The game was a collaborative effort between Dynasty Warriors' developers, Omega Force, and the action experts at Team Ninja, known for Ninja Gaiden and Nioh.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses represents a landmark release for the series. It was the first Fire Emblem game on a home console in 12 years, the inaugural mainline entry on the Switch, and it achieved both critical and commercial success, building on the momentum established by Awakening seven years prior.

Three Houses offers a grand yet intimate experience, weaving together epic battles that advance a narrative of political and religious conflict within a continental war. Between these battles, players can engage in monastery life, teaching, training, exploring, and deepening bonds with other characters through engaging dialogue and performances.

For those new to the series, Three Houses is an excellent starting point, showcasing Fire Emblem at its finest.

In 2020, Nintendo brought Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore to the Switch, an enhanced version of the original Wii U title. Encore expands on the game with new story elements, characters, and music, blending Fire Emblem’s iconic "weapon triangle" combat system with the dynamic style, dungeon-crawling, and combat mechanics of Atlus's Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series.

The game's narrative humorously and extravagantly satirizes Japanese pop culture, prioritizing action over story depth, similar to its predecessor, Warriors.

Nintendo partnered again with Omega Force to create Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, the second crossover with Dynasty Warriors. Set in an alternate timeline from Three Houses, this game casts the protagonist of Three Houses, Byleth, as the main antagonist.

Three Hopes offers a richer fusion of the two franchises, incorporating more of Fire Emblem’s social and tactical elements alongside Dynasty Warriors' signature action-packed gameplay.

Fire Emblem Engage is the latest addition to the series and the second mainline entry on the Switch. Building on the success of Three Houses, Engage pays homage to the franchise's history by refining the social and hub mechanics while emphasizing tactical combat, notably bringing back the "weapon triangle" system.

In Engage, players follow the journey of Alear, the Divine Dragon, on a mission to collect 12 rings to defeat the Fell Dragon and rescue the continent of Elyos. These rings are not just tools of power but also a nod to the series' past, each containing the spirit of a former Fire Emblem hero, allowing players to summon icons like Marth, Ike, Celica, and Byleth.
