Genshin Impact 5.5: Varesa or Xiao - Who to Pull?

by Audrey Mar 31,2025

In *Genshin Impact* Version 5.5, set to launch on March 26, players will be introduced to two new characters: Varesa, a 5-Star Electro Catalyst, and Iansan, a 4-Star Electro Polearm. The Version 5.5 livestream highlighted both characters, but Varesa's kit particularly caught the community's attention due to its striking similarity to Xiao's playstyle.

How Is Varesa’s Playstyle Similar to Xiao’s in Genshin Impact?

Varesa's kit is intriguing, especially her Charged Attacks, which launch her into the air to perform Plunging Attacks while generating Nightsoul Points. This mechanic is vital for her, as she hails from Natlan, and these points are essential for her abilities. Her Elemental Skill, "Riding the Night-Rainbow," transforms her into a luchador pro wrestler, charging forward to deal Electro DMG. Following this, her Normal Attacks transform into Plunging Attacks without consuming stamina, echoing Xiao's mechanics when he uses his Elemental Burst, "Bane of All Evil," which enhances his jumping capability for consecutive Plunging Attacks.

After accumulating enough Plunging Attacks, Varesa can enter a powerful state called "Fiery Passion" if her Nightsoul Meter is full, boosting her attacks and Burst. This necessitates a focus on Plunging Attacks in her gameplay, much like Xiao's.

Should You Stick to Xiao or Pull for Varesa in Genshin Impact?

The key distinction between Xiao and Varesa's Plunging Attack mechanics is that Xiao requires his Elemental Burst to enable continuous Plunging Attacks, whereas Varesa can initiate them simply with her Charged Attacks. This difference allows Varesa to not only enter a more potent state but also maintain Plunging Attacks in this form.

If you're a fan of Xiao's playstyle and enjoy this type of gameplay, Varesa could be a worthwhile addition to your roster. Her independence from relying on an Elemental Burst for Plunging Attacks is her standout feature. Additionally, if you already have other characters from Natlan, Varesa will synergize well with them, leveraging the Nightsoul's Blessing.

However, it's worth noting that Xianyun will be featured alongside Varesa in *Genshin Impact* 5.5 (Phase I). Xianyun is an excellent support for Plunging Attack-focused characters like Xiao. If you have Xiao but not Xianyun, consider pulling for her instead. Otherwise, Varesa offers a fresh yet familiar experience.

Genshin Impact is available to play now.
