The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) has set a new Guinness World Record by opening an astonishing 20,000 cards in a marathon 24-hour livestream event. This incredible feat was achieved with the help of popular internet personalities and celebrated the release of the latest expansion, Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks. The Longest Unboxing Livestream to Date

The Pokémon Company shattered the existing record for the longest unboxing livestream on November 26, 2024, as part of the festivities for the Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks expansion. The marathon was broadcast live on Pokémon's Twitch channel, featuring well-known figures such as Serebii’s Joe Merrick, PokeGirl Ranch, and Mayplaystv. Together, they opened 1,500 booster packs and other Pokémon products, amassing over 20,000 cards by the end of the stream, as reported by Pokémon’s Official Press website.

Peter Murphy, Senior Director of Marketing at The Pokémon Company International, expressed his pride in the achievement, stating, “It’s been an incredible 24 hours of pack opening, and we’re thrilled to have achieved such an ambitious GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title alongside an amazing team of content creators.”

The excitement doesn't end there. Pokémon fans should stay tuned for more product giveaways on content creators' channels in the coming weeks. Additionally, the cards collected during the livestream will be organized into binders and donated to charities, including Barnardo’s in the UK, just in time for the holiday season.

Released on November 8, 2024, the Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks expansion transports players to the Terarium, the central setting of Pokémon SV’s The Indigo Disk: DLC Part 2. This set introduces Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, including the formidable Archaludon ex with its Metal Defender ability.

Fans of dragon-type Pokémon will be thrilled with the inclusion of iconic creatures like Palkia, Dialga, Eternatus, Alolan Exeggutor ex, and Tatsugiri ex. The expansion also offers a tropical flair with illustration rare and special illustration rare cards featuring Alolan Dugtrio and Feebas, capturing the essence of "calming ocean waves and a balmy breeze."
