Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.1 Leak Hints at Free 4-Star Character Selector
A recent leak suggests Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.1 will include a free 4-star character selector, potentially as part of a limited-time event. This selector would reportedly allow players to choose one of four characters: Qingque, Pela, Serval, or Asta.
This news comes as Honkai: Star Rail's 3.0 update approaches, introducing new gameplay features and characters. The game currently boasts 23 4-star characters, with varying degrees of meta relevance. While some, like Moze and Gallagher, have gained popularity, many 4-stars require significant Eidolon investment to reach their full potential. Past updates, such as Versions 2.1 and 2.7, offered free character selectors to facilitate Eidolon acquisition. The Version 3.1 leak suggests a similar event is planned.
The leaked selector features characters from the game's initial 1.0 cycle, including Asta, who is readily available early in the game. This aligns with earlier rumors suggesting an upcoming focus on 5-star character releases, potentially indicating a slowdown in 4-star additions. The disparity between 5-star (nearly 40) and 4-star characters is significant, further emphasized by the anticipated arrival of eight more 5-stars with Amphoreus, plus two more from the rumored Honkai: Star Rail/Fate/Stay Night crossover.
The 2.0 cycle only added four new 4-star characters (including March 7th's alternate form). If the leak proves accurate, future 4-star selectors might lack sufficient new unit options. Despite this, Version 3.0's highly anticipated additions of The Herta and Aglaea, coupled with recently released redeem codes for Stellar Jades and materials, provide players with ample opportunity to prepare.
Character Details:
- Qingque: Quantum, Erudition
- Pela: Ice, Nihility
- Serval: Lightning, Erudition
- Asta: Fire, Harmony
While Pela and Asta remain viable support options, Qingque and Serval have been outperformed by newer DPS characters. All four are also purchasable in the in-game store. The ongoing trend of prioritizing 5-star releases over 4-star units, as observed since Penacony, further contextualizes this leak.
