As previously leaked, this update introduces Super Earth maps where players can engage in missions within Mega Cities, fighting back against the invading Illuminate alongside SEAF soldiers.
These new city biomes feature operations crucial for liberating the cities, significantly impacting the planetary campaigns within Helldivers 2's ongoing Galactic War. Arrowhead, the game's developer, emphasizes the community-driven meta narrative that shapes this immersive experience.

According to the PlayStation Blog, the Helldivers' new mission is to repel the Illuminate invasion by gaining control over strategic areas where the enemy fleet is landing. Described as an intergalactic tug-of-war, players will experience rapid gains and losses in territory control.
Players can now activate Planetary Defense Cannons to take down the Illuminate fleet, as highlighted in the trailer. Additionally, SEAF troops will join the fray, either fighting independently or following Helldivers to provide temporary backup as you pursue your objectives. It's essential to remain cautious of civilians still roaming the streets, as managing friendly fire is just as critical as combating the alien threat.
The Heart of Democracy update underscores Arrowhead's dedication to sustaining Helldivers 2 for years to come, following its record-breaking launch. Addressing concerns about the studio's future focus, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani reassured players last week that Helldivers 2 remains the priority. "Nah. It's ALL Helldivers 2 for now," he stated. "A very, very small team will spin up something later this year and go at it sloowly. Helldivers is our main focus and will be for a loooong time."
When asked about the duration of content updates, Jorjani responded optimistically, "As long as you folks keep playing and buying Super Credits we can keep it going." He acknowledged past challenges but highlighted the strong support from the community, indicating a bright future for Helldivers 2.
