Marvel is bringing back a villain from the very first MCU film, Iron Man, for its upcoming series, Vision Quest. Faran Tahir will reprise his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the leader of the Afghan terrorist group that held Tony Stark captive in the film's opening sequence, almost two decades after his initial appearance. This marks a return for the character after his last appearance in the opening 30 minutes of the 2008 Iron Man film. Similar to Samuel Sterns' reappearance from The Incredible Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World, Hamidmi al-Wazar's return in Vision Quest, starring Paul Bettany as White Vision, is a surprising development. The series currently has no announced release date.

While initially portrayed as the head of a generic terrorist group, Hamidmi al-Wazar's backstory was subtly expanded in Phase 4. His group was later revealed to be connected to the Ten Rings, a connection likely unplanned at the time of Iron Man's release. The 2021 film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, significantly developed the Ten Rings' lore, retroactively establishing Hamidmi al-Wazar as a commander within the organization's Afghan operations. This opens the possibility of a connection between Vision Quest and the events of Shang-Chi.
Alternatively, Vision Quest might explore forgotten or less-developed elements of the MCU, similar to how Deadpool & Wolverine tackled the more unconventional aspects of the scrapped Fox Marvel universe. The series will also feature the return of James Spader as Ultron, his first appearance since Avengers: Age of Ultron, though details about his role remain scarce.
