Nexus Mods, a popular platform for game modifications, finds itself at the center of a heated controversy after removing over 500 mods in a single month. The catalyst? Two mods for Marvel Rivals that replaced Captain America's head with images of Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
The platform's owner, known as TheDarkOne, clarified the situation on Reddit, explaining that both mods were removed simultaneously to prevent accusations of political bias. TheDarkOne stated, "We removed the Biden mod on the same day as the Trump mod to avoid bias. But for some reason, YouTube commentators are ignoring this."
However, this decision sparked a backlash, with TheDarkOne reporting receiving numerous threats. "We're getting death threats, being called pedophiles, and subjected to all sorts of abuse simply because someone decided to inflame this issue," TheDarkOne added.
This isn't an isolated incident. In 2022, Nexus Mods faced similar criticism for removing a Spider-Man Remastered mod that replaced rainbow flags with American flags. At that time, the platform openly defended its stance on inclusivity and its commitment to removing content that contradicted those values.
TheDarkOne concluded, "We won't waste time on those who find this objectionable."
