MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5

MultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th Season

Warner Bros. Games has announced the impending closure of its platform fighter, MultiVersus, following the completion of its fifth and final season. The game will officially shut down on May 30, 2025.

Season 5: A Final Farewell

The announcement, made via MultiVersus' official Twitter (X) account on January 31, 2025, confirmed that Season 5, launching February 4, 2025, will be the game's last. This season will introduce two highly anticipated characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes), both unlockable through gameplay. All Season 5 content will be obtainable without real-money purchases. Following the season's end, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

No official reason for the shutdown has been provided.

Offline Play: A Lasting Legacy

While online services cease, players can continue enjoying MultiVersus offline. A local gameplay mode, supporting solo play against AI or cooperative play with up to three friends, will remain accessible. To retain this functionality, players must download the latest game version between February 4th and May 30th, 2025. Upon logging in, a local save file will be generated, preserving all earned and purchased content.

Real-money transactions have already been suspended as of January 31, 2025. Any remaining Gleamium (in-game currency) can be used until Season 5 concludes.

A Brief History and Community Thanks

MultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th Season

MultiVersus initially launched in open beta in July 2022, quickly gaining popularity as a free-to-play platform fighter. Following a relaunch in May 2024 with significant updates (including new characters, rollback netcode, and a PvE mode), the game faced challenges including technical issues, player disconnections, and criticism regarding its microtransactions. Reported player count declines contributed to the ultimate decision.

At its closure, MultiVersus will boast a roster of 35 playable characters. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support.

MultiVersus remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30, 2025.
