It’ll take nearly half the time to fully charge your Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller compared to the original model.
As highlighted by Nintendo Life, Nintendo recently released the official tech specs for the upgraded $84.99 Switch 2 Pro Controller, confirming it charges in approximately three and a half hours—provided you're using the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter or a compatible USB-C cable. This is a significant improvement over the original Pro Controller, which requires about six hours for a full charge.
The best part? That faster charging doesn’t compromise battery life. Just like its predecessor, the Switch 2 Pro Controller delivers an impressive battery life of up to 40 hours on a single charge. In addition to quicker charging, the new controller features the updated C button, adds two extra GL/GR buttons on the underside, and comes in a slightly more compact and lightweight design for enhanced comfort.

If you're holding onto your original Pro Controller, good news—it remains fully compatible with the new Switch 2 console, so there's no need to upgrade immediately.
Nintendo officially revealed the Switch 2 during a recent 60-minute Nintendo Direct event. While pre-orders were initially expected to open in early April in the U.S., global tariff concerns prompted Nintendo to postpone the pre-order date to April 24. Despite the delay, the company confirmed the Switch 2 console and games will retain the $449.99 price point. However, most accessories have seen a price increase—the Switch 2 Pro Controller now costs $85, up from $80.
