Star Wars fans are buzzing with excitement as Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac is set to make an official appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025. The event, scheduled to take place in Tokyo from April 18 to 20, has sparked rumors about the potential return of Poe Dameron to the beloved galaxy far, far away. The official Star Wars Celebration Instagram account announced Isaac's attendance, fueling speculation among fans.
This announcement comes on the heels of Daisy Ridley's appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2023, where she revealed her involvement in an upcoming film centered around her character, Rey. Given this precedent, fans are eagerly anticipating whether Isaac will also announce his return to the franchise during the event.
The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, and since then, Isaac's stance on returning to the Star Wars universe has shifted. Initially expressing reluctance in 2020, stating he would only return if he needed "another house or something," his attitude had softened by 2022. In an interview with Variety, he expressed openness to any opportunities, indicating he had "no real feeling one way or another."
Isaac has also been vocal about his disappointment with Disney for rejecting his proposal of a romantic subplot between Poe and Finn, portrayed by John Boyega. He attributed the decision to the "overlords" not being ready for such a storyline. Boyega, who also had a tumultuous relationship with the franchise, has similarly expressed openness to future roles within the Star Wars universe.
Speculation is rife that all three main characters from the Sequel Trilogy could reunite in the upcoming Rey film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. This film will follow Rey as she endeavors to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has already voiced her hope for Boyega to join her, and with Isaac completing the trio, his return seems plausible.

While definitive answers may be revealed at Star Wars Celebration 2025, fans might have to wait longer to see how the narrative unfolds. Disney has repeatedly delayed the release of new Star Wars films despite announcing over a dozen projects. The Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, currently has a tentative release date of December 17, 2027.
