Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 Out Now!
Steam Player Count Goes Up After Patch 8 Release
Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) has reached a pivotal moment with the launch of Patch 8 on April 15, 2025, marking the end of its major updates. This final patch has sparked renewed interest, boosting the game's player count from around 60,000 to an impressive 169,000 concurrent players on Steam, just shy of the top 10 most played games.
Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke highlighted the player surge on Twitter (X) on April 22, crediting the game's robust mod support as a key factor. This support allows the studio to shift focus toward their next ambitious project. It's been confirmed that Larian Studios will depart from the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) universe, paving the way for new ventures.
In light of this, Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro, owners of D&D, are set to continue the Baldur’s Gate series without Larian. They are currently engaging with other studios to potentially develop a Baldur’s Gate 4.
12 New Subclasses, Photo Mode, and More!
Announced back in November 2024 via a Steam blog post, Patch 8 has been eagerly awaited. It introduces 12 new subclasses, a photo mode, cross-play functionality, and numerous other enhancements. The detailed patch notes, available on BG3’s official website, showcase a comprehensive list of bug fixes and combat balance adjustments, ensuring a polished final experience.
Larian Studios has poured significant effort into refining BG3, and despite this being the last major patch, they remain committed to supporting the game's modding community.
