Path of Exile 2 Endgame: A Comprehensive Guide to Ritual Events
Path of Exile 2 introduces four major endgame map events: Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. This guide focuses on Rituals, a returning mechanic adapted from a previous league. We'll cover initiation, mechanics, the Pinnacle boss, and the unique reward system.
Initiating Ritual Events
Ritual encounters are indicated on the Atlas map by a red pentagram icon with a demonic face. A Ritual Precursor Tablet, slotted into a completed Lost Tower, guarantees a Ritual event on a chosen map node.
Once in a map with a Ritual, several Altars will appear. Each map has a shared random modifier affecting enemies and mechanics. These modifiers might introduce massive rat swarms, life-draining blood pools, or other challenges.
To start a Ritual, interact with an Altar after noting its modifiers. A large circle will illuminate around the Altar; remain within this zone to fight the summoned enemies. Leaving the circle prematurely ends the event with no rewards. A map is considered complete once all Rituals are successfully finished.
The King in the Mists: Pinnacle Boss
The "An Audience With The King" currency item, obtained through Ritual rewards, unlocks a fight with the King in the Mists, the Ritual Pinnacle Boss. Use this currency at your Realmgate on the Atlas map to access the boss fight.
The King in the Mists' mechanics are similar to his campaign counterpart. For practice, revisit Act 1 Cruel difficulty and create a new instance of the Freythorn zone. Defeating him grants 2 Ritual Passive Skill points, a chance at a unique item from a Ritual-exclusive pool, and various powerful currencies and Omen items.
Ritual Passive Skill Tree
The Ritual Passive Skill Tree, accessible from the Atlas Passive Skill Tree screen (bottom right), enhances Ritual events. Nodes reduce Tribute requirements, improve rewards, and boost unique currency drop rates. The tree is distinctly red with five prongs, eight Notable nodes, and eight nodes increasing the King in the Mists' difficulty. Each Notable node requires defeating the King in the Mists at an increased difficulty.
Prioritized Notable Nodes:
Notable Node | Effect | Requirements |
---|---|---|
Promised Devotion | 25% increased Altar skill damage; 50% less Tribute and faster Favour appearance at Altars. | N/A |
From The Mists | 2 extra enemy packs in Rituals. | N/A |
Reinvigorated Sacrifices | Revived monsters gain Toughness and damage, but no longer penalize Tribute. | From The Mists |
Spreading Darkness | Always 4 Ritual Altars per map. | N/A |
Between Two Worlds | Rituals always contain a Wildwood Wisp (increased Tribute). | Spreading Darkness |
Ominous Portents | 25% faster monster waves, but 50% more likely Favours contain an Omen. | N/A |
He Approaches | Revived monsters have a 20% chance to be Magic or Rare; 50% chance for "An Audience With The King". | Ominous Portents |
Tempting Offers | Extra Favour re-roll; 25% less Tribute for re-rolls. | N/A |
Prioritize "From The Mists," "Spreading Darkness," and "Ominous Portents" first for significant reward increases. Then, focus on "Tempting Offers" and "He Approaches" for better Omen and "An Audience With The King" chances.
Ritual Rewards: Tribute and Favours
Completed Rituals grant Tribute, a temporary currency to purchase randomized items called Favours. More Altars completed increase Tribute and unlock more Favours, ranging from Magic items and low-level currencies to Rare gear and high-tier currencies. "An Audience With The King" is exclusively found among Favours.
Omen currencies are highly valuable, modifying the effects of other currency items. They are consumed upon use. Examples include Omens of Annulment and Alchemy.
