Path of Exile 2 is known for its brutal endgame challenges, but the developers have sprinkled in some helpful early-game encounters that offer permanent buffs, extra passive points, and weapon set skill points. These hidden opportunities are often easy to miss but can make a significant difference later on.

One such encounter is Sisters of Garukhan, an optional event that appears twice during the campaign—once in Act 2 and again in Act 2 Cruel. Successfully completing this encounter grants a permanent +10% Lightning Resistance boost each time. However, many players overlook it due to its subtle placement. Here's how to locate and activate it.

Where To Find Sisters of Garukhan

The Sisters of Garukhan encounter occurs within the Spires of Deshar map during Act 2 and Act 2 Cruel. The icon on the world map is very small and can be easily missed, which is why many players don’t realize it exists.

Since maps in Path of Exile 2 are procedurally generated, there’s no fixed path that guarantees you’ll find the shrine every time. However, rest assured that the encounter will always appear somewhere inside the Spires of Deshar map. Explore thoroughly until you come across a shrine similar to the one pictured above.

Approach the shrine and interact with it to receive the +10% Lightning Resistance buff. Be warned: activating the shrine triggers all nearby chakram-wielding automatons in the area, who were previously inactive statues. They will now engage you aggressively.

If you reach the exit checkpoint before interacting with the shrine, you can fast-travel back to the shrine using the nearby checkpoint to avoid re-clearing the entire map.

How to Get +10% Lightning Resistance From Sisters of Garukhan

The +10% Lightning Resistance bonus is applied instantly when you interact with the Sisters of Garukhan statues. It is not obtained through defeating enemies or collecting loot—it activates automatically upon interaction.

This encounter repeats in both Act 2 and Act 2 Cruel. To maximize the benefit, ensure you complete the encounter in both instances. Doing so gives you a total of +20% Lightning Resistance, making it a valuable asset for late-game builds.

Why is +10% Lightning Resistance Not Activating

Some players report receiving the confirmation message after interacting with the shrine but noticing no visible change—or even a negative value—in their Lightning Resistance.

This confusion arises from a built-in game mechanic: at the start of each new act, your character receives a -10% penalty to all elemental resistances (excluding Chaos Resistance). So, if you activate the Sisters of Garukhan in Act 2, the +10% Lightning Resistance cancels out the -10% debuff, resulting in a net 0% Lightning Resistance.

In Act 2 Cruel, the debuff stacks further, bringing your resistance down to -40%, and activating the shrine once more increases it by +10%, giving you a final -30% Lightning Resistance.

To verify whether the campaign-based resistance bonuses are active, remove all gear and check your resistance values in the endgame zone. If you see a -40% all Res, you haven't missed any buffs—you're just seeing the cumulative effect of the act-based penalties.
