DC Studios' head, James Gunn, has exciting news for fans: Peacemaker Season 2 is set to premiere on Max on August 21. Gunn shared this update via a tweet, expressing his enthusiasm by describing the Season 2 premiere as “one of my favorite things ever.” Alongside the announcement, he released a brief snippet of new footage featuring John Cena in action, with a notable moment where he smirks at the camera against a backdrop of fire. In the clip, someone remarks that Peacemaker is now "a superhero."

This release comes on the heels of the much-anticipated Superman movie, set to hit theaters on July 11, marking the beginning of Gunn’s rebooted DCU. Peacemaker Season 2 will be the third entry in this new universe, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film.
Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DC franchise away from the previously criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, some elements from the DCEU will carry over into the new DCU. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, having originated in the DCEU with its first season, and now continuing into the new DCU with its second season.
Gunn has emphasized that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," although the specifics of what will transition from the old to the new universe are still under wraps. He has confirmed that the entire cast of Team Peacemaker will return, with John Cena reprising his role as Peacemaker, joined by Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Additionally, Gunn has revealed that the events of Peacemaker Season 2 will follow those of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's storyline directly impacting Peacemaker's narrative.
