Survival of the Fittest is among the toughest challenges in Phasmophobia. Without the usual evidence-gathering tools or the luxury of maintaining sanity, players must rely solely on their wits and observation skills to deduce the ghost’s identity. This challenge takes place at 42 Edgefield Road, a notoriously tight-knit map with narrow hallways and blind corners that make both tracking and escaping the ghost a nerve-wracking experience.
Tips & Tricks To Complete Survival of the Fittest in Phasmophobia
When you arrive at 42 Edgefield Road, remember these key points. First, you won’t have access to traditional evidence-gathering tools such as Ghost Writing Books, DOTs Projectors, or Video Cameras. Instead, focus on the ghost’s behavior, movement patterns, and unique traits. Tools like the Parabolic Microphone can help identify specific ghosts by sound, while salt can reveal a Wraith. Lighting Firelights in sequence may uncover an Onyro. For further assistance, consult our comprehensive cheat sheet of No Evidence ghost behaviors.

Starting this challenge, you’ll have no setup time (technically five seconds) and zero sanity, leaving you immediately vulnerable to ghost hunts. Even worse, sanity cannot be restored, despite being provided with two Sanity Medications. Be prepared to conduct your investigation under extreme pressure.
Although evidence collection will be challenging, the ghost remains highly active throughout the challenge. Frequent events occur, offering valuable opportunities to study its behavior. The ghost’s favorite room remains constant, providing a strategic advantage. Most doors start partially open, making it harder to track its location. Fortunately, the fuse box starts on, offering a rare advantage. Nine hiding spots are available across the map, giving you ample chances to stay safe during hunts.

As your sole cursed possession, the Monkey Paw offers a risky yet potentially rewarding option. Using it to “wish for knowledge” will eliminate several incorrect ghost types and evidence entries in your journal, improving your chances of success. However, this comes at a steep cost: you’ll be temporarily blinded and deafened, triggering a Cursed Hunt nearby. This strategy works best for multiplayer teams, allowing one player to act as a decoy.

To access Challenge Mode, head to the Difficulty Settings in the Main Menu. Choose either Singleplayer or Multiplayer to create a lobby. Navigate to the Difficulty tab above your character ID and scroll down until you find Challenge Mode. Apply it as your next investigation. Note that you must complete these challenges at the designated location—42 Edgefield Road. The system won’t automatically assign this map, so manually select it from the Maps board.
Remember, to earn the full $5,000 reward, you must successfully identify the ghost during three separate investigations. Correctly spotting the ghost is the only requirement; additional actions aren’t necessary.
