Sony provides an update on the temporary availability of classic PlayStation console themes for the PS5, along with news regarding future theme releases.
In a recent tweet, Sony announced the impending removal of the PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4 themed PS5 console skins on January 31st, 2025. However, they reassured fans that these popular themes will return at a later date. The positive reception to these nostalgic themes prompted Sony to work on their reintroduction in the coming months.
"Thank you for the fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow," Sony stated. "Due to the positive response on these 4 themes, we’re doing some work behind the scenes to bring these special designs back in the months ahead."

Despite this positive news, Sony also revealed that there are currently no plans to release additional console themes beyond the four classic PlayStation themes. Their statement reads:
“While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we're excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all.”
This announcement has drawn considerable disappointment from fans. The PS5's lack of themes, a feature present in previous PlayStation iterations, remains a point of contention, and this statement suggests it won't change within this console generation.
The temporary themes, released in celebration of PlayStation's 30th anniversary on December 3rd, 2024, allowed PS5 users to customize their home screens and menus with visual and audio elements reminiscent of the PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4. Each theme featured distinct design elements and sound effects from its corresponding console.
