"Pokémon TCG Journey Together: A Nostalgic Return for Trainer's Pokémon Fans"

by Isaac Apr 20,2025

The Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet — Journey Together set is set to launch on March 28, 2025, and it's bringing back a beloved mechanic from 2004: Trainer's Pokémon. This nostalgic feature, reminiscent of classics like EX Team Magma vs. Team Aqua, is sure to excite fans old and new. I'm thrilled to offer a sneak peek into this set, which focuses on four iconic Trainers: N, Iono, Lillie, and Hop, each paired with their unique Pokémon ex cards, highlighting the strong bonds they share with their teams.

This set contains over 180 cards, including more than 40 Trainer's Pokémon, 16 Pokémon ex, 11 Illustration Rares, six Special Illustration Rares, and three Hyper Rare gold cards. Box Toppers are also returning, featuring Enhanced Booster Display Boxes with a stamped N’s Reshiram Illustration Rare.

Journey Together Standard Booster Box

Opening a Booster Box is an exhilarating experience with 36 packs to tear through. My highlights included N’s Reshiram Illustration Rare, Iono’s Bellibolt ex Secret Rare, and the Hyper Rare Spiky Energy. While I didn't pull Hop’s Zacian ex or Lillie’s Clefairy ex Special Art Rare, the sheer variety and excitement of opening packs made it a worthwhile endeavor. If you're into pack-opening thrill or expanding your collection significantly, a Booster Box is the way to go.

Journey Together Elite Trainer Box

Elite Trainer Boxes offer a premium experience. The N’s Zorua promo card immediately caught my attention, and the box's design is perfect for card storage. The included sleeves, dice, and condition markers are great for gameplay, and with nine booster packs, I managed to pull Iono’s Kilowattrel Illustration Rare, Articuno Illustration Rare, and a Veluza ex. ETBs provide a balanced mix of pack-opening fun and collectible extras, making them a solid choice for experiencing Journey Together.

Journey Together Build & Battle Box

Build & Battle Boxes offer a unique experience with a prebuilt 40-card deck, allowing immediate play. I pulled Hop’s Snorlax as my promo, an excellent card that boosts all of Hop’s Pokémon attacks by 30 damage. The four packs yielded Mamoswine ex and Swinub Illustration Rare, perfectly complementing my deck's theme. If you're looking to dive right into gameplay with the new set, this is the ideal option.

Our Pokémon TCG: Journey Together Pulls

After opening 49 booster packs across various products, I ended up with 18 rare cards. Some were exactly what I was hoping for, while others were delightful surprises. Here's a rundown of the cards I pulled:

Hop’s Snorlax (Promo 184)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A sturdy Basic Pokémon with 150 HP that enhances Hop’s Pokémon attacks by 30 extra damage. Ideal for Trainer-themed decks, despite the 80 recoil damage from Dynamic Press.

N’s Zorua (Promo 189)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A basic card that's more of a stepping stone to its evolved form, Zoroark ex. Its 70 HP and 20 damage from Scratch are modest.

Spiky Energy Hyper Rare (190/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
An essential card that deals 20 damage upon being hit and provides Colorless Energy. A must-have for any deck.

Iono’s Bellibolt ex-Secret Rare (172/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A 280 HP Lightning-type powerhouse with Energy acceleration. Its Electric Streamer ability is perfect for Lightning decks, and Thunderous Bolt’s 230 damage is impressive.

Iris’s Fighting Spirit Full Art (180/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A draw Supporter that lets you discard one card and draw until you have six. Great for refreshing your hand, especially in decks that benefit from discarding.

Iono’s Kilowattrel Illustration Rare (163/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A Lightning-type that refills your hand but requires discarding a Lightning Energy. Its 70 damage from Mach Bolt is average but useful for hand management.

N’s Reshiram Illustration Rare (167/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A 130 HP Dragon-type with increasing damage output. Its high-risk, high-reward nature makes it thrilling to play.

Articuno Illustration Rare (161/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A Water-type that accelerates two Basic Water Energy onto itself. Ideal for setting up Water decks quickly.

Swinub Illustration Rare (165/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
Useful for early-game setup, allowing you to search your deck for two Basic Pokémon. Its Lunge Out attack does minimal damage but supports deck-building.

Salamence ex Secret Rare (177/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A 320 HP Dragon-type with powerful spread and direct damage attacks. A formidable card for any deck.

Hop’s Zacian ex (111/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A Steel-type legendary with a 240-damage attack, though it can't be used consecutively. Great for one-hit knockouts.

Alcremie ex (075/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A Psychic-type that heals 30 damage every turn. Best used in control decks for sustained play.

Mimikyu ex (069/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A tricky Pokémon that spreads damage and disrupts opponents with its Mischievous Hands and Ghostly Trip abilities.

Veluza ex (043/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A Water-type with a high-risk, high-reward attack that requires discarding your entire hand. A glass cannon for those willing to take the risk.

Lillie’s Clefairy ex (056/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A Psychic-type that punishes Dragon decks and scales its damage based on Bench size. A late-game sweeper.

Volcanion ex (031/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A Fire-type that burns opponents and deals significant damage while moving Energy around. A versatile card for Fire decks.

Mamoswine ex (079/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
A 340 HP tank that can search for any Pokémon and scales its damage based on Stage 2 Pokémon on the Bench. A powerhouse in evolution-heavy decks.

Salamence ex (114/159)

IGN Photo Composite / The Pokémon Company + Creatures Inc.
Another powerful Salamence ex with the same devastating attacks. A must-have for big hitters.
