Pokécology: An Official Encyclopedia For Pokémon Behaviors and Ecology
Launches in Japan in June 2025
The Pokémon Company, in partnership with the esteemed Japanese comic publisher Shogakukan, is set to launch an unprecedented official encyclopedia dedicated to the behaviors and ecology of Pokémon. Shogakukan revealed on their website on April 21 that Pokécology will be available starting June 18, 2025, in Japan.
Pre-orders are currently open at bookstores across Japan, with the book priced at 1,430 yen (tax included). While there's no official word yet on a global release, given the global fanbase of Pokémon, an English version is highly anticipated and likely to follow soon.
Pokémon Ecology Encyclopedia
This official Pokémon encyclopedia will delve deeply into the ecology of Pokémon, offering comprehensive insights into their diet, sleep patterns, physical characteristics, and their interactions with other Pokémon and their environment.
Pokécology has been meticulously compiled by experts from the University of Tokyo, including veterinary behaviorists and ecology doctors. The book's lead author, ecologist Yoshinari Yonehara, spearheaded the research into the behaviors of wild Pokémon. Complementing the scientific content, the renowned animal ecology illustrator Chihiro Kino will provide vibrant, full-color drawings of Pokémon.
While Pokémon has previously published numerous hardcover books on stats, battle techniques, stories, and game guides, Pokécology marks a pioneering effort to explore the biology and ecology of these beloved creatures. This book promises to be an invaluable resource for fans, particularly children, looking to deepen their understanding of the Pokémon world.
