Pokémon TCG Pocket butters up players with free trade tokens as they work on improving feature

by Jack Mar 20,2025

Pokémon TCG Pocket is offering 1000 Trade Tokens to all players as a temporary measure while they rework the game's trading system. This giveaway is accessible through the in-game Gifts menu. The trading feature, while highly requested, has faced significant player criticism since its launch.

The developers acknowledge the issues and are planning a substantial overhaul. The giveaway of Trade Tokens aims to alleviate player frustration in the interim. Trade Tokens were previously a necessary currency for trading cards.

Prior announcements detailed plans to simplify trading and currency acquisition. Players have specifically voiced concerns about trading restrictions, such as rarity limitations and the mandatory use of in-game currency.

The initial design of the trading system appears to have been a misstep. A more open trading system, or the complete absence of trading, might have avoided the current controversy. While botting and exploitation are valid concerns, stricter limitations likely wouldn't have deterred determined players.

The upcoming rework is crucial for addressing these concerns. A well-implemented digital trading system could significantly enhance Pokémon TCG Pocket's appeal as a viable alternative to the physical card game.
