"New Power Rangers Series on Disney+ Aims to Reinvent Franchise for New Fans"

Exciting news for fans of the iconic franchise: *Power Rangers* is gearing up for a thrilling live-action series on Disney+. According to The Wrap, the masterminds behind *Percy Jackson and the Olympians*, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, are in discussions to take the helm as writers, showrunners, and producers for this new venture, produced in collaboration with 20th Century TV.

Hasbro, the current owner of the Power Rangers brand, aims to rejuvenate the series for a new generation while keeping the existing fanbase engaged and excited. This move reflects Hasbro's vision to expand the franchise's reach and appeal.

Power Rangers was essential viewing for a generation of kids in the '90s. Photo by Fox/Getty Images. The original '90s TV show, *The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers*, captured the hearts of countless children who were enthralled by the adventures of teenage superheroes and their awe-inspiring mechs. These machines, capable of combining into a colossal mega-mech, were a hallmark of the series.

In 2018, Hasbro acquired the Power Rangers franchise along with other assets from Saban Properties in a deal valued at $522 million. At the time of the acquisition, Hasbro's then-chairman and CEO, Brian Goldner, expressed enthusiasm about the brand's potential, stating, "We see significant opportunity for Power Rangers across our entire Brand Blueprint, including toys and games, consumer products, digital gaming and entertainment, as well as geographically throughout our global retail footprint."

This acquisition followed the disappointing 2017 movie reboot, which attempted a darker, grittier take on the franchise in hopes of launching a series of sequels. However, due to lackluster box office results, these plans were abandoned, leading Saban to sell the rights to Hasbro shortly thereafter.

Hasbro's ambitions don't stop with Power Rangers. They are also developing other high-profile projects such as *The Forgotten Realms*, a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series for Netflix, an animated *Magic: The Gathering* series also for Netflix, and a cinematic universe based on *Magic: The Gathering*. These ventures underscore Hasbro's commitment to expanding its entertainment offerings and captivating audiences worldwide.
