Early Access Available Now!

RuneScape: Dragonwilds stunned fans with its surprise announcement of early access availability. During the early access livestream on April 16, developer Jagex revealed that the game is now accessible on Steam, a mere few weeks following the release of its initial trailer.

The gaming community was taken aback as Dragonwilds had only recently opened for wishlist on Steam on April 1 and showcased its first gameplay teaser on April 2. Although the game was first mentioned in 2022, it wasn't until late 2024 that Jagex began alpha testing signups for a "new survival game set in the RuneScape universe." The official reveal as RuneScape: Dragonwilds occurred on March 31, 2025.

Developers are aiming for an official release in early 2026, emphasizing their commitment to delivering a polished and engaging experience. "We want to spend the time to get everything right to ensure that our players enjoy a complete, satisfying experience that they’ll want to revisit with friends repeatedly," they stated.

Jagex Executive Producer Jesse America highlighted that Dragonwilds represents a new type of RuneScape experience, tailored for franchise enthusiasts. He remarked, "Throughout Early Access, we’ll be updating the game regularly with new content and features, while actively engaging with the community to create an iconic open-world survival crafting game loved by both our dedicated RuneScape fans and newcomers."

Jagex has shared the early access roadmap, giving players a glimpse of the planned updates. A key highlight is the introduction of a new region, Fellhollow, a mystical realm suspended between life and death, ruled by the soul-eater dragon Imaru. This region is influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld. Accompanying players in this journey is the iconic RuneScape character, Death. New quests, lore, gear, and music are on the horizon, alongside new skills for magic, ranged, and farming.

Additionally, the game will feature a new enemy type, Lesser Dragons, new dragon slayer gear, a hardcore mode, a creative mode, and more. While specific dates for these updates haven't been set, Jagex promises continuous enhancements throughout the early access period.
