The San Francisco Nintendo Store Now Has Its Own Camper Waiting Out for the Switch 2 — and It's Not Even Open Yet

by Simon Apr 23,2025

The excitement for the Nintendo Switch 2 is palpable, as evidenced by the dedication of fans like YouTuber Super Cafe. Even though the new Nintendo Store in San Francisco won't open its doors until May 15, Super Cafe has already set up camp outside. In a video released on April 8, he documented his journey, flying over 800 miles to be the first in line on the west coast for both the store's opening and the highly anticipated Switch 2 launch.

Super Cafe, who has only been in his apartment for two months, humorously admitted that his decision to camp out might not be the wisest financially. "Terrible financial decision on my end. Whatever, who cares," he quipped. His dedication mirrors that of another YouTube content creator camping outside the New York store, highlighting a trend among fans eager to be first in line for the new console.

While Super Cafe plans to camp out solo, he's open to others joining him and has encouraged potential campers to get in touch. As for the logistics of his extended stay, such as accommodations, food, and showers, he promised to address these in a future Q&A.

The tradition of camping out for major Nintendo releases, particularly new consoles, is nothing new. With campers now stationed at both coastal Nintendo stores, it remains to be seen if this will spark a larger trend. What's clear is the unwavering dedication of these fans.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025. For those not inclined to camp out, our comprehensive guides on Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders provide valuable information, although ongoing tariffs in the United States may complicate matters.
