Sony Bravia X93L Review by Jaron Schneider

"While the Sony X93L carries a premium price tag, it largely justifies the cost with its excellent image quality, driven by superior processing that delivers an outstanding gaming experience."

The Sony Bravia XR X93L was initially released in March 2023. At that time, it was positioned as the second-highest-tier non-OLED TV in Sony's lineup, just behind the X95L (which was only available in an 85-inch size in the U.S.). The X93L utilizes Mini-LED technology, which is particularly effective for displaying HDR content. As the name implies, LED-backlit panels feature an array of LEDs that can be controlled independently, enhancing black levels and contrast. Mini-LED panels use smaller, more numerous LEDs, allowing for more precise brightness control within any given scene.

The X93L also stands out as an excellent choice for gaming. It is equipped with four HDMI ports, two of which support the HDMI 2.1 standard. HDMI 2.1 enables 4K output at refresh rates up to 120Hz, making it ideal for current-generation consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, however, is expected to be capped at 60fps in docked 4K mode, so HDMI 2.1 won't be a requirement for that system.

If you're an Android smartphone user, you'll appreciate that Sony employs the reliable Google TV smart interface. It's straightforward, functional, and even allows you to use your Android device as a remote control.
