RGG Studio Has Two More Projects Coming Up
Sega Takes Risks Into New IPs And Ideas
RGG Studio, creators of the beloved Like a Dragon series, are currently developing some ambitious projects, including a brand-new IP. With the next Like a Dragon game and a Virtua Fighter remake slated for 2025, it's impressive that they've added two more titles to their roster. Masayoshi Yokoyama, the studio's head and director, credits Sega's willingness to take risks as the driving force behind these opportunities.
In December, RGG Studio unveiled trailers for two exciting projects within the same week. At The Game Awards 2025, they introduced Project Century, a new IP set in Japan in 1915. The following day, Sega's official channel revealed the trailer for the new Virtua Fighter Project, distinct from the upcoming Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O remaster. Both projects showcase the studio's ambition and large-scale production values, reflecting Sega's confidence in RGG's ability to deliver innovative experiences.
"One of the best things about Sega is their willingness to accept the possibility of failure," Yokoyama told Famitsu, as translated by Automaton Media. "It's in Sega's DNA," he continued, recalling how Sega's early experience with the Virtua Fighter IP led them to explore new genres. This experimentation birthed the action-adventure series Shenmue after considering the idea of turning 'VF' into an RPG.
RGG Studio is committed to ensuring that neither project will suffer in quality, particularly with the Virtua Fighter series. Yu Suzuki, the creator of the IP, has voiced his support for the new project. Yokoyama, along with Virtua Fighter Project producer Riichiro Yamada and their team, are determined to deliver a product that isn't "half-baked."
Yamada emphasized their goal, stating, "With the new ‘VF,’ we aim to create something innovative and appealing to a broad audience. We hope both fans and newcomers will be excited about what's to come. Stay tuned!" Yokoyama echoed this sentiment, expressing his hope that gamers will eagerly anticipate both titles.
