EA and Maxis are marking the 25th anniversary of The Sims franchise with a fantastic surprise for fans. As of today, both The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 are once again available on PC through The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. These collections can be purchased separately or as part of The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle for $40.
Each collection comes packed with all expansions and nearly all stuff packs. Notably, The Sims 2: Legacy Collection is missing the IKEA Home Stuff pack from 2008, but aside from that, you'll find everything else included. Moreover, both collections feature bonus content: The Sims 1 includes the Throwback Fit Kit, while The Sims 2 comes with the Grunge Revival Kit, adding even more to the extensive list of add-ons.
This re-release is a significant event, as it's the first time in over a decade that both classic titles have been readily accessible. The Sims 1, originally released only on disc, has been challenging to play on modern Windows machines without an old physical copy. Meanwhile, The Sims 2, which was last available in 2014 through the Ultimate Collection on EA's Origin store, became unobtainable once that collection was discontinued. Now, with these new collections, all four The Sims games are easily purchasable and playable through digital storefronts.
In our original reviews, The Sims 1 scored an impressive 9.5/10, while The Sims 2 received an 8.5/10. Although the series has evolved with many new features and refinements, the original games still hold value for their charm, simplicity, challenge, and historical significance.
You can now find The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and through the EA app.
