Skull and Bones Adds Land Combat in Fall Update, Ubisoft Reveals Year 2 Plans

Ubisoft is steering Skull and Bones into its most ambitious year yet with a treasure trove of new content planned for Year 2. The roadmap unveiled during a special Year 2 showcase promises exciting additions, including new game modes, ships, and the much-anticipated land combat feature that fans have been clamoring for since the game's launch last February.

During the showcase, Ubisoft revealed that Season 3: Guts and Glory, set to launch this fall, will introduce the long-awaited land combat. Players will finally have the opportunity to step away from the seas and engage in thrilling swordfights and gun battles on land. This feature is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, where players will explore sandy beaches and damp caves to rescue skilled Officers. A teaser video offered a glimpse into what players can expect, but we'll need to wait until later this year to see it in action.

While land combat is the highlight of Skull and Bones Year 2, the roadmap is packed with other thrilling content to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which launches today, April 15, introduces an item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, scheduled for summer 2025, will bring Megaforts and the formidable Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, arriving this winter, will introduce the mythical Kraken, the Hunter's Guild, and the Corvette large ship.

If the Year 2 roadmap has piqued your interest, you're in luck. Ubisoft is offering a free weekend for Skull and Bones from April 17 – 21, giving players a chance to experience the pirate PvP action firsthand. Additionally, the game will be available at a discounted price during this period, though the exact amount has yet to be announced.

Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, receiving a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft hasn't disclosed official sales figures, they did mention that the game achieved "record player engagement" shortly after its release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% increase in players for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.
