"Skyblivion Remake Still Aims for Release This Year"

by Alexander May 07,2025

Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is still on track for a 2025 release. In a recent developer update stream, the dedicated team of volunteer developers reaffirmed their commitment to this launch timeline. Skyblivion represents a monumental effort in the world of modding, akin to a AAA-scale project, and has been a labor of love for its creators over the years.

The team expressed optimism about meeting or even surpassing their 2025 target, stating, "We hope with your support to finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation." This update not only reaffirmed their release goal but also showcased the impressive work completed so far.

Describing Skyblivion as merely a one-to-one remake would be an understatement. The developers are going above and beyond to enhance various aspects of the original game. They are ensuring that unique items truly stand out and are revamping existing bosses to make them more formidable, with special attention to characters like Mannimarco. The team also highlighted the "A Brush with Death" quest in their livestream, showcasing the beautifully reimagined painted world.

The project's significance is heightened by rumors of an official Oblivion remake. Earlier this year, alleged details about an Oblivion remake emerged, suggesting potential changes to combat and other elements. Microsoft, however, declined to comment on these rumors to IGN. Additionally, in 2023, an Oblivion remaster was mentioned in documents inadvertently released during the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial. While some projects like the Indiana Jones game have since been released, others, including the Oblivion and Fallout 3 remasters, remain unconfirmed.

The possibility of an official Oblivion relaunch by Microsoft and Bethesda could impact projects like Skyblivion. Bethesda's games have a rich history of modding support, from older titles to the latest releases like Starfield. Fans hope that Skyblivion will not face the same challenges as Fallout London did right before its launch.
